Hell Yeah, Paul Feig Put His Own Ghostbusters On His List of His Favorite Movies This Year

It’s that time of year when the internet fills up with “Best Of” lists. (*ahem*) These are great for celebrating artists and other people, places, and things that were important this year, and they’re handy for figuring out what you want to invest your time and money in. You probably didn’t see every movie this year, so what’s worth catching up on? Consult the lists!

I’m not sure, though, that any end-of-year list can compare with Paul Feig’s. Indiewire got 35 directors to each talk about their 10 favorite films of the year and (in addition to including that fake Dunkin’ Donuts commercial from Saturday Night Live, which he considers a “short film”) Feig included his own Ghostbusters:

“Yeah, that’s right, it’s my movie and I’m not ashamed to put it on here.  I made it, I’m proud of it, everyone involved in making it was great and despite the media focusing on all our haters, a lot of people really liked it.  So, it’s my top ten list and I’m putting my own movie on it.  Boom!  Suck it, trolls.”

I love that he refused to be crushed by the trolls and the haters (they only make us stronger, you know), but even more than that, I’m in awe of his total lack of reluctance in celebrating his own work. We should all do more of that. What’s the point of creating art if it’s not the art you want to see in the world? And when you do create something you’re proud of, that would be on your list if it were made by someone else, LET THE WORLD KNOW.
